Today was the first day back for Term 2 Virtual World Library Club. Students were keen to get back to building in world and other students were eager to use it for the first time. Toby loved playing with the Minecraft App and other students had a brilliant time with the Alternator game 🙂 We love the library on Thursdays as it is the technology hub of the school for 45 very fast minutes!
Mrs Booth visited class K3B this morning and there were a few students absent but the three that were there were on task and working hard on their literacy activities. We had lots of fun and Mrs Booth decided that she has to visit this class more often for their wonderful cheeky smiles 🙂 Good work everyone.
Today Australia celebrated ANZAC day our most important national occasion. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and in 1914, when war broke out, the two countries joined forces to capture the Gallipoli peninsula and make their way to Constantinople which is now called Istanbul in Turkey. There were heavy losses on both sides as the ANZAC forces landed on the beaches on April 25th. The battle lasted for nearly 8 months  before a stalemate was declared and the ANZAC troops evacuated. Over 8000 Australian soldiers died during this time and this great loss had a profound impact on the Australian people leading to ANZAC day becoming considered by many as our nations most important national holiday.

Who had a ride on the Lachlan Valley Steam Train on the weekend? Mrs Booth was there on Saturday to watch it leave and is a big fan of steam engines. The engine is powered by steam that is created by burning coal in a firebox that is surrounded by water. When the water is hot enough it produces steam pressure necessary to power the pistons  that drive the wheels of the engine. This is a great link that explains and shows you how it all works: Haworth Village Steam Trains. If you want to see more pictures and get in contact with the Lachlan Valley Railway click here
Turn your speakers up for this video Mrs Booth took of the train leaving the station 🙂
Students from 5M might recognise their buildings they created for their African village project using their student modified virtual world application sim-on-a-stick. Mrs Booth was busy creating a final build linked to Molly’s Kenya and the World Food Program.

Class 3/4HE have been looking at Exposition text types and thanks to UNReal Estate ,who sponsored some advertising space, Daniel and Damian had their expositions published in the weekend property lift out.
An exposition text requires students to organise their text to appeal to the target audience and provide some reasons or arguments why the reader (in these examples) should buy or rent a particular property. Well done to class 3/4HE and a BIG thank you to UNReal Estate Coffs Coast for sponsoring their work 🙂
A number of Coffs Harbour Public School students were part of a community consultation plan when the local council decided to build a new playground as part of the Brelsford park redevelopment plan. The students were initially involved 3 years ago as they submitted drawings and ideas to the design company GeoLINK and the same students were recently involved in a follow-up interview to see if the design had pleased them and if there was anything that they were not happy with.
