CHPS Celebrates Harmony Day and ‘Everyone Belongs’

Harmony Day activities and celebrations were in full swing today at CHPS. First stop was Mrs Hodgon’s class 1H who were wearing orange and creating portraits of themselves all holding hands. Levi had the perfect answer when Mrs Booth asked the class “what does Harmony Day mean?” Levi answered “everyone belongs!”

Next visit was Kindy where Mrs Martin and Ms McGregor were showing the children all the special dolls and objects Ms McGregor has collected in her travels overseas. There was a Chinese dragon from China, Worry Dolls from Guatemala  , Amish dolls and many more. The students were also going to make people for a creative arts activity. I will look forward to seeing their work on Thursday 🙂

2M were busy making flags from all the countries that the student’s in their class were from. Say Mu is pictured holding her flag from Myanmar /Burma. The children then were colouring orange people and placing a photo of their own face for the head. Finally they were going to put all their work up on display. Great work!

Stage 3 students were playing various games, learning to greet each other in different languages and a number of them were on a quest to find various students, discover where they were born and then take a photograph of them. This was lots of fun and a terrific way to get to know their school community.

2O were researching the countries of students who were born outside Australia. They learned about Tanzania, Thailand and Ethiopia. They also learned more about our Indigenous students and discovered what a fantastic and diverse class they were. Well done 2O 🙂

Finally Mrs Booth tracked down Mr Grono the fabulous person who takes care of our school and keeps our classes so clean. Thank you Mr Grono from everyone here at CHPS.

What a great day and wonderful community we have here at Coffs Harbour Public School.

PS: Thank you Ms Burgess for taking notes for Mrs Booth and Mrs Doust for being our tour guide 🙂
