We are sailing!

Sailors with Disabilities offer a Try Sail Day Program which is designed to give disabled and disadvantaged children and young adults the opportunity to go sailing. Through our crew, SWD are able to provide positive role models, demonstrating that people with a disability do not have to be confined by it.

What a great day the staff and students had and a huge thank you to the Sailors with disAbilities program as without this great organisation the day would not be possible.

Live for Kids Cycle Classic

The Live for Kids Cycle Classic 2013 arrived in Coffs Harbour from the Gold Coast to a rousing welcome from our staff and students. They are making their way down to Newcastle and raising funds for the John Hunter Hospital along the way. The reason for stopping in was to present our special education unit with two specially modified bikes for the students to use in the playground. Thank you so much for this wonderful gift which is greatly appreciated by all the parents, staff and students. We are sure they will be a much loved and very popular play choice!

Mayor Denise Knight Visit

This morning Mayor Denise Knight visited our school to donate $1000 from the Coffs Harbour City Council towards the school achieving their fundraising goal of a new community special education mini bus and playground equipment for our special education play area. It was a wonderful visit and all the children were so excited to see her. Relieving Principal Janelle Bullen, who also heads the special education unit, was there to receive the cheque 🙂

Thank you Mayor for taking the time to visit our school and contribute to this very deserving cause.

Farewell Mr Thompson

On behalf of our staff we would like to wish Mr Thompson all the very, very best on his move to Broken Hill. Mr Thompson has done an amazing job with our students and Burke Ward PS is very fortunate to pick up such an outstanding young teacher who has the capacity to do amazing things with students. Joel will be missed by all of us and his students will also be extremely sad to see him go.

Peter Hickey, Principal.
