Virtual World Library Club

The Library Virtual World Club is extremely popular and runs every Thursday lunchtime. It is a great opportunity for those students who are not using the sim-on-a-stick virtual world platform in their classroom to be exposed to it in a supportive manner. They can explore freely at their own pace and have lots of assistance from other students already familiar with the program if they need it. Mrs Booth is always there overseeing everyone  and ensuring the program is running smoothly. She has noticed, however, that the demand to use it is greater than the computers we have to run it, so Mrs Booth is now taking note of those who have been waiting a while and they will have first preference next Thursday.

Happy exploring

Virtual World Library Club is crazy!

The library is the place to be on Thursdays with our virtual world club and iPads for use. Every computer was being used by students who were exploring and problem solving as they worked through the application. I am always amazed at how engaged the students are and this is their lunchtime…awesome! Maia you are a star as you are always there magically assisting anyone who needs help and I have never asked you to do this 🙂

I can see the potential of this program and what is great about Thursdays Library Club is that everyone can get a chance to use it.  It was also great to have Mrs Jacka visit from Southern Cross University in Lismore to see first hand what happens at our school and how we are using virtual world technology. She was the person that introduced me to virtual worlds and her daughters Cass and Gab have created a great blog called Adventures in Lisa Sim (the link is on our Blog Roll) which the students in 5M and anyone can use for building tips and questions.

Thanks Noah for reviewing the iPad Minecraft app and giving it a 7/10. I want to sit down with you next week so you can show me how it works and tell me how different it is from the PC version.

Here is a great video of Tyler who was creating a river system and island where he could build a house. This was only the second time he had used sim-on-a-stick. Way to go Tyler and excellent work!

Here is a video showing how engaged everyone is and you can see what a brilliant assistant Maia is 🙂
