The Human Body Stage 2

Stage 2 have recently finished the ‘Human Body’ unit of learning. The students created powerpoint presentations, quizzes,  completed virtual activities, visual art and written projects. They were extremely busy and engaged as they immersed themselves in their learning. Click on the Youblisher book to view examples of their work. Great work everyone 🙂

Virtual Thursday

What a super busy Thursday with sim-on-a-stick. I think all the students knew holidays were coming up as Mrs Booth has a pile of USBs to load for holiday virtual building and the library was completely full with students all sharing ideas and building. The girls created a high and long jump plus swimming pool on the Olympic sim and the boys were just building, building and building! It is truly amazing what can be accomplished in a 45 minute lunch time session and the thinking power and engagement is remarkable.

Mrs Booth was also in 4P finishing up their virtual world learning introduction and the students had a brilliant time questing to win the prize of a Freddo frog .  Thanks again to wonderful student expert Chris, from 5M,  for assisting and supporting their learning. Mrs Booth will be with 4EA and 5N next term and now has to create a quest on body systems (4EA) and the Antarctica  (5N)  which should keep her busy over the next few weeks 🙂

4P Virtual Racing

4P had some fun today with a virtual athletics race where there was some serious cheating led by Mr Pike I think!

The students also used the QR Code blog post to provide the information and clues they needed to complete quest task 3.

4P – Being Australian Virtual Quest

4P discovered virtual worlds today embarking on the ‘Being Australian’ virtual quest for HSIE. Mrs Booth decided to adapt the original learning unit to include multi-user and was very glad to see that it worked brilliantly with no crashes. All the students understood the in-world behaviour expectations and used text chat to communicate . The most excited student was the class teacher, Mr Pike, who decided to cause a bit of havoc in-world 🙂

…and just in case you thought it was a quiet lesson…

Being Australian: Australian Landmarks

Class 4P is studying the HSIE unit Being Australian:

Being Australian is about the variety of historical and cultural influences that underpin the
broad notion of being Australian.

Students will learn about:

• the contribution of people and groups from other countries to Australian heritage
• the contribution of people and associated places and events to community heritage,
including knowledge of original Aboriginal nations and boundaries
• differing viewpoints on community heritage
• causes and effects of change in the local community and other communities
• continuing and changing roles, traditions, practices and customs in the local community
• origins and backgrounds of people in the local community
• the original inhabitants of the local community area
• the diversity of groups within and between communities
• easily recognisable symbols used by the local community, eg coats of arms
• languages spoken within communities, including the original Aboriginal languages
spoken in the local community area.

As part of the unit the students have been exploring Australian landmarks and using charcoal to create sketches of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

Here is a slide show of their work.
