3H Space Invaders

3H have been learning about all things EARTH and SPACE. At the end of this term we are holding a film festival, where we will showcase our own Earth and Space short films. In preparation for this we have been learning how to use technology to create a movie. So far we have experimented with Green Screen, Chatterbox, Pixabay and iMovie. We have put these new skills into practise and created this movie where each student chose some interesting information to talk about, record and insert into iMovie.
This has been an eye opening experience for the class and we now realise how flexible you need to be to take on a role as a Hollywood director or actor. During this learning we incorporated all 7 dispositions but on reflection the most prominent disposition was being PATIENT and PERSISTENT, as some scenes had to be recorded over and over again!

Science Week in 3/6B.

Last week 3/6B decided to have some fun with science.
We had some helpers in the classroom so we had lots of fun doing some science experiments and laughing. We made a tornado in a bottle – our first one failed but we decided to have another go and the second time we didn’t add as much glitter but we added a little detergent. Now it works perfectly.
We then watched our Smarties make a rainbow – someone ate a few Smarties along the way! – and we made some slippery slime. Lastly we made sherbert – fizzy sherbert with icing sugar, citric acid, baking powder and jelly crystals.
It was a great day in the classroom with fantastic helpers.

3M News

What a busy start to Term 3!

3M have rocketed straight into their S.T.E.A.M project…SPACE INVADERS. They have created their own fictional planets and developed a fictional character to live on their planet. It has been wonderful to observe the students thinking, questioning and reflections along with their enthusiasm for the overall topic. It will be our assembly on Thursday the 16th of August at 2pm if you would like to come along. 3M will be telling you all about Captain Disposition.

Multicultural Day

On Wednesday 29th August from 11.30am through to 1pm CHPS will be recognising and celebrating the many cultures that attend our school. A Multicultural Day is a wonderful way to support our students and acknowledge the richness and diversity of the different cultures that make up our school. It is also a great opportunity to appreciate everything we have in common such as a safe place to grow up and learn, good friends and a positive future. Parents and community members are invited to attend this event. There will be more information to come about the activities on the day.

We look forward to seeing you,

Multicultural Day Committee.

Want to join in on the War on Waste? Register now for our Food Smart program

Did you know that the average household throws away $3,800 per household of perfectly good food each year – what would you do with an extra $3,800?

We don’t intend to, but we often waste good food because we buy too much, cook too much, or don’t store food correctly. Food Smart is a free education program that helps households reduce food waste at home, save money and help the environment.

Help us avoid creating this waste problem in the first place, by taking part in the Food Smart program!

 Pandora Animals and Plants

We watched a short snippet of the Pandora Movie. We discussed the vocabulary and language used to describe the creatures and plants on the Planet. We then invented our own plants and animals using some of the new vocabulary we learnt. We wrote in the style of the narrator on the movie.

For the plants names we investigated ‘Latin botanical names’. We named our plants according to what they looked like, where they lived, using the Latin names we found.

We hope you like them, from 6B
