What are we? – Competition

Mrs Booth parks in the same spot every time she has to go to university and it is right by a very strange web. Over the past few weeks the web has been growing and the other day Mrs Booth and her son noticed some very strange caterpillars there also. Can you identify what they are? What are the creamy coloured masses on the tree? What causes the silk threads? Why are they on this tree?

You will also notice that Mrs Booth has posted two pictures of a type of lizard that was discovered in the washing basket of a friend who lives in Sydney. Can you identify what it is? I can tell you this species is only found in the Sydney area and is protected by law.

The first student to comment from Coffs Harbour Public School, correctly identify the insect larva and lizard, and answer all the questions will win a wonderful full size magnifying glass from Little Einstein’s!

Enjoy your scientific investigation.

How Ella travels to and from school

Ella travels to and from school on her dad’s motorbike, a Triumph Speedmaster. She loves it and has been riding pillion since she was 8 years old which is the legal age in NSW. Last year Ella and her dad rode to Oberon which is around 700 km south and about 9 hours on a motorbike or driving. Ella’s dad had packed a back pack full of snacks, water and her Nintendo DS to keep her occupied on the long trip and told me that only once when it was very cold and wet did Ella complain. She loves riding on the motorbike and when she is older wants to get one for herself.
