For Molly: International Women’s Day March 8, 2012

Thursday, March 8, was International Women’s Day and this was a day to celebrate the roles women play in our lives. How they nurture and provide for us and our families, and the amazing things they have done to make the world a better place. But still today women’s lives and choices can be restricted and they receive less money for doing many of the same jobs as men. Class 5M met a girl called Molly recently and have been following her through her video diaries as she shows the rest of the world her life in Nairobi, Kenya. Molly is being empowered through good food, with the assistance of the World Food Programme, education and being given the chance to have a voice with her flip camera provided by Cisco who, incidently, also made the flip camera that we used to film our video!

Here is the recent news report from CNN:

Here is the video the girls from 5M made for Molly on International Women’s Day 🙂
Hi Molly the girls in class 5M made this video for you and your friends and they talk about what it is like being a girl in Australia and who are the special women in their lives.

Many thanks to Ms Jacka who was a visitor to our school and helped film and ask questions 🙂
