Lego Man in Space

A huge thankyou to Matthew Ho and Asad Muhammad who sent the intrepid Lego explorer into space for allowing us to use their video and picture in our blog. How amazing is this? The Lego man flew 80,000 feet into the air so that you could actually see the curve of planet Earth! Mathew and Asad are in high school in Canada and spent over four months building and working on the project. Go to this link for a newspaper article about the adventure.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could find out how create our own rockets and then launch them and see how far we could send them into the air.
Please comment if you think you know how we could do this.

Here is the Lego astronaut with real Canadian astronaut Dr Roberta Bondar who was the first female Canadian astronaut and flew in the NASA space shuttle Discovery.

Start putting your rocket science thinking caps on 😀

Time to turn off the tap in Coffs Harbour

Coffs Harbour has been very wet this week and, with La Nina visiting the Eastern parts of Australia, we had very heavy rain. With so many creeks and rivers in the surrounding areas many places flooded. My water gauge is 150mm and was filled to the brim on Tuesday, January 24th…that is a lot of rain. Dorrigo received even more with around 600mm and Glennifer 742mm; that is nearly 30 inches of rain or if you get two school rulers it is 74cm!  Read the local newspaper report here from The Coffs Coast Advocate.

Below is a map that shows you the rainfall that fell for the week.

Stay dry everyone

Our blogging club introduction and guidelines.

This blog has been created for Coffs Harbour Public School students to post information and work that they and fellow students have enjoyed working on during the year. They can post anything related to their studies and interests that Mrs Booth or their class teacher has given permission for. This might be videos, photos, voice recordings, blog entries and comments…the list is endless. The best thing about blogs is that other people can read them and comment on all the fantastic things they have been viewing and reading. Some of the comments could be saying what a great job you have done on a particular activity or another comment could be one that offers constructive criticism that will be very helpful for future posts and learning. Either way blogging is a great form of digital literacy and can reach classrooms, students, families and friends who live on the other side of the world or interstate.

Have fun but remember these blogging tips when making a comment.

  • Compliment the writer.
  • Add new information.
  • Make a connection.
  • Ask a question.
  • Proof read your comments before you publish your blog.
Here are some important blogging guidelines.
BE SAFE and think about your digital privacy.
  • Use your first name only to identify yourself.
  • Avoid using your family name, street address, phone number and home email when blogging.
  • Try not to tell the time and location of the things we take part in. (e.g. talk about your dance practice but leave out the where and when)
  • Parents and other family members who leave comments are asked not to use last names either. (Please post comments as “Jimmy’s mum” or “Megan’s grandfather”, etc.)
BE LITERATE and take care with your spelling and grammar.
  • Check your work before you click the SUBMIT COMMENT or PUBLISH buttons.
  • Texting language is not part of our school blog.
  • Proofread your work making sure you check for typing errors, capital letters and fullstops or other puctuation.
  • Spelling does matter. We would like others to be impressed by our digital footprint.
We welcome visitors to our blog and would really like to strike up a conversation. Here are some tips to help first time “commentors” on their way.
  •  Please remember we are learning as we go so all comments are moderated before they will appear on our blog.
  •  Tell us what you liked about our work and our post and ask some questions for us to think about.
  •  We will read all comments and try hard to give your comment an answer to keep the conversation going.
  •  Please leave your URL so that we may return the visit.
  •  We welcome correct spelling and punctuation so that we can understand your comments.  Our teachers will proofread just in case your comment needs a little help.
Thanks very much to the following sources of information on blogging guidelines.

Enjoy using this blog.
